One Priceless Treasure

              One of the hardest questions and things to figure out with my hobby of creating things is figure out “what to make.” I know I have said this 100’s of times and I will probably continue to say it. I of course will and probably never be able to explain my creative process. Especially because I believe that is very person specific. Yes, there is some familiarity and similarities with the right person.             I have said in an early blog about how I doodle ideas in a book. I will be honest that most of those ideas usually don’t translate to a successful project. Did you know there is alot to learn making a good video. Especially the editing software.  Ive made a few youtube shorts, time-lapse videos. Today I made my first full length video. Its hard to hear about when a first responder is unfortunately killed in the line of duty. I do not personally know the two officers killed in Tremonton Utah today. However it still hit home because I'm originally from the area.  I know one thing I am able todo and that is create a priceless treasure in hope to help keep there memory alive.  I dedicate these necklace pendants to Sgt Sorensen and Officer Estrada of the Tremonton-Garland Police department. I humbly want to express my Thanks and gratitude for your selfless service and sacrifice to the community.     

            Over the past few weeks as you probably could tell I haven’t carved anything new since completing the clock and redoing the other clock. Yes, I still have been creating from painting. Which I can say has been exciting in its own way. It was fun to have a different change of pace and use a different tool. Yes, my knowledge is still limited for how paint works and especially in the way of color theory and how to blend different colors. I am pleased with the result of what I was able to paint. Despite the limited knowledge I have “I didn’t let it stop me.” I do believe this is the bigger lesson which carries the greater value.   I have been a paramedic for almost nine years. Yes, I have seen a lot, but that’s not the purpose of this blog, so don’t ask for details. As a paramedic, it has taught me many things. The biggest reason for why I am a paramedic is to have “the ability to do something.,” especially in the time of struggle and tragedy. Yes, over the years I’ve had my fair share of struggles getting to where I am in my career. I started my hobby as a change of pace and focus for me due to the stress I was under with work. You only can study medicine so much. For the longest time I’ve had the mind set that “I have to have my next project.” I was working my creative brain so hard that it was causing creative block. Mixing the stress of finding and figuring out “what’s my next project,” just caused undo stress. This stress made everything worse in my life. I couldn’t focus on the other work, which made me struggle to know if I was doing things right. It even made me question if “I wanted to do,” whatever task was on the need to do list. I was also beating myself up because “I haven’t carved today, or this week.” Or I was feeling bad because “I didn’t know what to make.” Ultimately this limited the fun, the creativity, and the entire process for what I truly fell in love with.             I have learned to take another approach for my hobby of “creating things.” I have learned to love the passion of exploring different ways of creating things and working with specific material.   I have been trying to write a blog about being a craftsman who explores other types of art and why it’s important. I wanted to include how a master craftsman spends countless hours learning the material and tools for the trade of choice. I wanted to include how with all the investment of time, they are 100 percent dedicated to their work and craft. Of course, there is nothing wrong with that.             I have found recently that after completing my last projects. I have been thinking about the other forms of art and exploring how it’s done. I say this because creating art is possible in many forms and with many different materials. I have learned that each type of art takes a special set of talent, skills, and understanding.
