Who am I

My name is Kami. About 3 years ago I was feeling lost, confused, and stuck. I was just going through the motion of life. I knew something was missing but did not know what. I was talking to a friend and mentor who gave me a piece of advice that stuck with me. That was “you will find the way to leave a legacy.” I knew I needed a change but did not know what. This is the story of how I have developed a love for “bring to life random and creative ideas. Creating memories and treasures to cherish forever.” This ability has come through creating art through different forms. From wood carving, wood burning, glass engraving, and more. This has impacted my life all because I sat down and was willing to try. I will warn you, grammar and writing are not my strengths, but I will try my best.

February of 2022 I was feeling stuck and knew that I needed more. When I talked to my family and friends about how I was feeling I would get the same answer. The answer of “you need a hobby.”  The million-dollar question and always the dilemma is “what kind of hobby?” People have good intentions and try to suggest different ideas. Suggestions have a range from making art, sports, cooking, music and more. With every suggestion comes excuses for not trying. I too am guilty of making excuses. I have also heard “well I guess my hobby is.” Usually, they say going to the gym or exercising. This is not bad, however for me a hobby must have a purpose or intention towards which you are working. Whether it is making something or setting a goal for something. An example to give is wanting to climb Mountain Everest. Exercise does have the ability to be a hobby, I know I need to be doing it more. When I first started to explore thing, I had to ask myself, “what am I missing.” and “what am I looking for.”

While going through the motions of life, the light bulb came on. This light bulb movement was “I needed a hobby that was not related to work.” This thankfully started the snowball rolling and thinking through what I might be interested in. I have background in music and considered options. I do still enjoy music but kept looking, it did not feel right. I kept thinking. I did start to briefly crochet because I had lessons on how to when I was younger. I enjoyed it but again I was looking for more. Online I saw the possibility of the “paint by numbers.” Opted to try it and determined it was fun but again “wasn’t right.” I concluded for me the main reason I kept looking was because “I was getting bored.”

I then started to ask myself multiple questions, to help determine that exactly I was looking for. From purpose of, driving force, desired result. I then remembered one desire that I have had for years, however, never taken seriously was wood carving. I started to do research. I found chisels that were better than what I have tried in the past. I then took a trip to the hobby lobby to get material. Of course, did I know what I was doing? Answer no. I knew that I needed to try. When people found out that I started to carve wood. The first question that I always get asked is “how did you learn how to do that?” Answer is simple “I sat down and tried.”
