My dream
I have been a paramedic for almost nine years. Yes, I have seen a lot, but that’s not the purpose of this blog, so don’t ask for details. As a paramedic, it has taught me many things. The biggest reason for why I am a paramedic is to have “the ability to do something.,” especially in the time of struggle and tragedy. Yes, over the years I’ve had my fair share of struggles getting to where I am in my career. I started my hobby as a change of pace and focus for me due to the stress I was under with work. You only can study medicine so much. Plus, I am not really into playing video games consistently.
As I explained in the blog entitled “Who
am I.” I needed to find the answer to the intimidating question of “you need a
hobby.” Which thankfully I have found with wood carving. Yes, I do wish I took
wood carving more seriously when I was younger. This brings to mind the phrase
of “there is no time like the present.” For some situations I do believe this
is true, you just need to be careful.
I can’t count how many times I’ve
been told that I need to “start selling my work.” That’s still something I haven’t
figured out, if I will activity start selling my work. I am happy with the “first
dibs” type selling. At least for now.
I have come to realize how my hobby
has evolved over the years. I have condensed my hobby to the simple name of “I create
things.” Leaving the door open to explore different types of materials, and
ways there are to create things. Yes, I still love wood carving and will
continue. I just also like to “mix things up a little bit from time to time.”
One thing which I have been
pondering is “what’s my goal,” “what’s my dream,” or “what’s my mission.” Where
do I see my hobby and blog going?” Or “where do I want this blog to take me?” I
still to this day don’t have an exact answer. Nor do I expect anything major to
happen. I know one thing for now is “you never know unless you try.” Another
question was brought to my mind is “what’s my treasure.?”
From the line of “having the ability
to do something.” This has started to evolve for me. I have come to realize
that there are many more ways of “helping people.” From being a listening ear
when a person needs someone to talk to. Being a friend who will send random
pictures to give a person a simple. You never know if the other person is
having a hard day. There are many more I just named a few possibilities.
I reached out to a friend awhile
back who had just lost her dad. I offered my service of making a memorial
treasure art piece. Her response was “yes, but.” She didn’t know what to make.
My response of course was “let my creative process work.” All I needed was
memories to help make it special. The project came out perfectly. I love how
with creative freedom and a little impromptu reminiscing, anything is possible.
I have been able to take ideas from my imagination and make them come alive. I
have transformed and given new life into a box that I found at a secondhand
store. I have had many projects which have been successful. I’ve also had
projects which I’ve lost motivation in. Yes, I’ve had projects which have fallen
apart, from over cutting a line, to the wood or tool not cooperating. But that
is part of the fun.
What’s my treasure?
My
treasure is the journey to see what my imagination and creativity is possible.
Taking the time out of my day to make a treasure. Investing in the craft to see
what the material wants to become. Taking a chance on an idea for which may or
may not be successful in the end. Exploring not only what my potential is, but
also the potential in the tools I invest in. My treasure is having the ability
to put a smile on a person’s face when they least expect it. Giving a treasure
and memento which “hopefully will last a lifetime.” Yes, there is a monetary value
associated with my time, at the current time I am not worried about that. Because
I gain more value from what is invested in the journey and the meaning behind my
work. The meaning and impact my work can have in a person’s life. Especially if
they never thought it was possible.
You show so much faith and courage
