Did I waste today?

 


The random pages with many lines and eraser marks. Spending hours today seeing what possibly could be created. However, nothing was looking right. There is and will always be the struggle finding the next idea. However, is the time wasted when nothing is found. 

I spent hours drawing and then erasing. With each page that I dont erase shows potential. Each page shows something was developing However something wasnt right. Despite great effort of burning brain cells. The right look wasnt coming. 

With each potential idea the special details and elegance takes time to develope. Because a good story and treasure takes time to mature. The right look doesnt come, especially if you over think it. Im unfortunately guilty of this. I probably will continue to be guilty.

I dont believe I wasted today. Because the potential is there. I know that as crazy as it sounds my heart will see whats possible at the right time. I know with each little doodle, inspiration will be triggered to tell the story. I wasnt successful to design and entire project because I focused on finding the exact idea and details. I know what I needed todo instead was focusing more on the fun, randomness, seeing what project story wants to be told. 

The book of secrets hold the potential blue prints, inspirational triggers and future treasured stories, just waiting for there time. Because I dont have to have every idea created by tomorrow.

How I started

       After doing research and ordering chisels I wanted to try. The process continued. The first question I asked myself was “what do I want to achieve?” The simple question of “what to make?” Through research and pondering ideas what usually comes to mind is sculptures. Sculptures are and can be breathtaking to look at. Unknowing to people is the amount of effort, skill, and tools required. I had many factors to consider for what to make, but the biggest one was “sculptures can need a good amount of space.” Do not get me wrong, they are beautiful and lovely to look at. Surplus Mayhem

        Exploring a hobby, especially the resources and material that are needed will be very overwhelming. When I started carving wood, I found a lot of information online very one-sided opinion on tools and the material. The hard thing for a person who is “just starting,” the one-sided opinion can be confusing, intimidating, and possibly expensive. I have made the mistake with other ideas in the past overbuying what supplies I thought were needed and then losing interest quickly. I fell victim to the “you have to have in order to be successful.” Which I have learned not to be true and be dangerous. Dangerous in many ways from, being overwhelmed to “where” and “how” to start. I know now that it can limit focus for skill development. Ultimately it risks you from ever wanting to try.
