Is a try a failure?

Explore my multiple attempts to bring an idea to life. The stencil you see in the photo below was the original idea.  I had the crazy idea and still want to figure out how to make this design 3D. Which is just as hard as you expect. I have been having the idea for awhile. I attempted multiple times and different ways trying to figure out how to draw this design is like a flat 3d. Well broken up so the it could be rapped around the log and I could make my lines. However nothing seemed to look right.

The videos below, are the first attempt to make this design come alive. I took a leap of faith to see if I could "figure it out," in the moment. Which some people might call brave, or crazy. The design looked good and I could see "life." However, as the project progressed the "math" was not adding up. Its hard to explain but it was the "vision" I had in mind.

Some people might say, You are crazy for trying. Or they might say "why try" if you dont have a plan. Or why try if your not sure how to execute the idea. I have found to respond with.

1- why?
Because I can, and I want to
2- learning
Fear can be used in different ways. Fear can make you afraid of trying, unsure, and insecurity towards anything and everything in life.
Or fear, is courage to try. Sometimes ideas are hard to explain, hard to develop exact steps to reach the finish line.

Finally:
You just dont know unless you try. Every idea can be crazy and different. I have learned while being a craftsman. Is that if you dont continue to challenge yourself. Then why are you creating. Why are you creating art. The whys will be never ending. It also not opening the door for your creative adventure to let the crazy ideas come. To have the courage to try and make an idea come to life even without knowing exactly how to make it. I am a believe in the value of "the process," the process of trying different ideas, but also the process of developing and learning new skills, and with new or different tools.

The pictures above. This was my second attempt at my idea. I used the original idea as a stencil. It was coming out Ok and I was having fun with my "chainsaw." However, the grain of the wood was wrong. I was using a "cookie." It was available and dry. I got to the point which concern came. As wood dries it starts to crack. Normal. I was using my 3 leg saw horse clamp "game changer." I was hearing on occasion some "cracking." Again normal when you clamp wood.
Wood is tricky especially with the grain direction and patterns. I did the drop test and it broke. Now the question people would ask is. Why did you drop it when you were trying to carve?

My answer is this: With carving I have learned that if you have a concern make sure you test it. I didnt want to get close to the finish have it slip and break. Especially if I have concerns before getting farther into the work.
